Narconon Patient Discusses How He Made Bad Choices On Drugs
Life can present an individual with a variety of choices, some easy and others more complex.  Some choices require that the individual be well-educated in the workings of society, as well as basic concepts of ethics and proper behavior.  For example, the choice not to lie to, steal from or deceive others should be a relatively easy choice for an intelligent, ethical member of society.  However, even an individual who was once an intelligent and valuable member of society may not be able to make these simple, ethical choices if they are under the influence of controlled substances.

The design of drug chemicals is such that the basic and normal functions of the human body can be altered or suppressed.  While the chemicals are initially foreign to the body, they quickly become tolerated and even depended upon.  The body indicates this dependence by displaying intense and sometimes painful withdrawal symptoms when drug chemicals are absent, driving the individual to do anything and everything necessary to obtain and use more drugs.  It is in this state of addiction that most individuals will make choices that they normally might not have considered; they may make choices that lead to the destruction of their career, relationships, health and more.

From Hiding to Living

Angus’ problems with substance abuse had caused him endless trouble in life.  He was always doing things that hurt himself in one way or the other.  He routinely broke the law and got into trouble, and willingly made bad choices with “friends” who were also addicts.  His unethical actions affected and hurt his family, which further hurt himself.  He would willingly lie to his family by promising that he was on his way home, and then he would stay away from home for days or weeks at a time.  He spent most of his time doctor shopping in order to get vast quantities of prescription medications, which he then used or sold.  When he finally did make it home, Angus would simply crash for three days and then turn right around and leave again.

After awhile, Angus hit a point where he didn’t know what he was doing anymore.  His life had no direction and he was slowly and steadily destroying everything that had once mattered, including himself.  Tired of feeling lost, trapped and in constant physical and emotional pain, Angus reached out for help.  A close friend of his who had done many of the same things Angus himself had done was attending the Narconon rehabilitation program.  Angus felt that if his friend could do the program and achieve sobriety, he wanted to do so as well.

Angus enrolled in the Narconon program and despite all difficulties he encountered along the way he stuck to the program and did every step correctly.  It wasn’t long before he began to feel good, and every day and week got even better.  He was able to rid his body of drug toxins that had accumulated over years of drug use, and he finally experienced freedom from cravings. He also confronted and took responsibility for past decisions and actions and the damages he caused himself and others.  Finally, he learned valuable life skills that enable him to spot dangerous situations and personalities in his life so that he can avoid them.

Now, Angus feels free.  He can do what he wants, instead of what drug cravings are demanding him to do.  He no longer wakes up in pain every morning, and in fact looks forward to getting up and going running.  Instead of hiding, Angus has learned how to love life and truly live it again.
